Hello! I'm Shavalyea, Franchise Manager & First Aid Trainer for Mini First Aid Hertfordshire. Upon meeting me, one of the first things you will notice is that I'm American. I've lived in the UK since January 2015; however, our family has lived in Europe since 2011! Professionally, I have had many titles; college administrator, corporate trainer, project manager and most recently, stay-at-home mum. Like many, I've always known the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency but it was becoming a first-time mum to my “always exploring” son that encouraged me to become more knowledgeable. Now, it is my mission to help all parents, carers, children and really anyone become more "first aid-ready" because you never know when it may be needed! I look forward to welcoming you to a class soon!
I'm Amanda, a paramedic, wife, mum and first aid trainer. My passion for first aid arose when I was a flight attendant and dealing with in flight medical emergencies was my forte. I then trained as a paramedic 18 years ago and still today work shifts regularly on an ambulance, I have found that this helps me greatly in my role as a first aid trainer as I can bring real life scenarios that I have encountered on an ambulance into my first aid training. Coming to the aid of a hurt or injured child and also comforting the parents or carers is something I never want to do but sadly accidents happen. My aim is to help carers and parents to know what to do in an emergency, how to help that child ,and to reassure you that first aid is really quite simple to learn and to dispel that fear and make everyone confident to deal with any first aid situation that may arise.
Grace is mum to one year old Alexander. Having previously worked as a teacher, Grace has first hand experience of working with children. This has reinforced her belief that all parents and guardians should be confident in administering first aid in the event of an emergency. Grace now enjoys being a Mini First Aid trainer and teaching parents these crucial skills.
Hi, I’m Mel, Health and Safety Professional and a qualified First Aid instructor with Mini First Aid Hertfordshire. I have spent the last 2.5 years delivering all things first aid across many workplace environments. I am very passionate about First Aid and helping individuals learn those all important life-saving skills. I can’t stress enough how valuable it is, whether you are a parent, grandparent, childminder, child or the best friend of a mum or dad; you just never know what might happen or the difference knowing first aid can make for the tiny tots in your life. I truly believe it’s a priceless skill to learn and I look forward to teaching it to you!
Attended this course in St Albans today. Taught brilliantly, really informative and most definitely worth attending.
It was a pleasure meeting Kate and Jacky from Mini First Aid and being taught what to do in case of an emergency. Learning CPR and what to do when a child is choking is invaluable. Obviously, I hope I never had to use the things I learned in today’s class, but horrible things happen and knowing these techniques can really make a huge difference. The class was fun and accessible given the seriousness of the topic. I would highly recommend everyone doing it.
The Mini First Aid Class (filmed for ITVBe) was a fantastic class, both Arg and I found it a really good and informative session
"We are so glad we have done a Mini First Aid class. We enjoyed the class, found it really useful and feel so much more prepared in the build up to having our baby.”
There are a gazillion things I never seem to get around to doing (fixing the broken blind in our bedroom, getting some photos printed of ‘the baby’ who is almost two but still doesn’t exist on our walls, pinning down the coffee date I’ve been promising my neglected friend via WhatsApp for at least 6 months…) BUT this morning I finally got my arse in gear and ticked off something from my ‘Really Must Do’ list by attending a First Aid class designed specifically for parents, grandparents and carers of babies and young children. It took just two hours out of my morning and covered a whole host of stuff including what to do if a child is choking, how to deal with burns/breaks/bleeding and the basics of life-saving CPR for kids.
As a first time mum, this mini first aid course was so important to me. My 6 month old has just started moving around, grabbing everything in sight and eating solids and I feel so much more relaxed after doing this course – I now know what to do in emergency situations. Shavalyea made the experience really enjoyable and this is definitely something I would recommend to anyone spending any amount of time with little ones! It is so important to be prepared! Thank you Shavalyea
I attend this course today in Southdown, Harpenden. It was an excellent course, very good value for money & would highly recommend to everyone, parents, Grandparents, babysitters etc. All areas covered, including the latest techniques for CPR, burns, choking and most recently in the press, Sepsis. I now feel knowledgeable and confident enough, that I could put these skills into play should I ever need to. Thank you very much x
I attended a course with Shavalyea today and it was exactly as I’d hoped it would be: a short, lively and informative session covering all the essentials. I now feel more confident that I would know what to do if my children needed first aid. Keep up the good work!
I cannot recommend Mini First Aid enough. Kate ran a private class for me and my 11 year old daughter in the comfort of our own home, which was perfect especially as my babies are due any day now. My daughter and I feel much more confident in knowing what to do in a range of emergency situations and I also got some extra twin tips from Kate as a fellow twin Mum! It's such an important life skill that every parent and carer should have so I would urge you to book a Mini First Aid course today.
We attended the Mini First Aid class when I was pregnant last year. Fast forward to now and my baby girl is 8months old and my training has just saved her life! My daughter began silently choking on a piece of toast and had started to turn purple, because of my training I remained as calm as can be in that situation and was able to get her in the correct position and give her some black blows and retrieve the nasty culprit. £20 I paid for that course, it was the best £20 I ever spent because my daughter's life is priceless. I know for a fact before attending the course I would have just panicked and screamed, not knowing the best course of action. Thank you so much Mini First Aid, you saved my daughter's life and for that I'm eternally grateful.
Sky are always looking for ways to better support their staff and Parents@Sky Network offers support and benefits to staff who are parents. I came across Mini First Aid through a Facebook promotion and there was a huge demand for the Infant and Child First Aid class which was shared on our internal and external social channels. The communication and organisation of the event was excellent - Sarah-Lou was professional, engaging and even injected some parent style humour! The class was interactive and educational - everyone took something away from it including much more confidence in dealing with any emergencies which could arise with their little ones. The feedback received on the back of it was amazing! It was a great success and hopefully something we can do again, and potentially roll out to other sites in the UK. Thank you Mini First Aid, you were a pleasure to deal with!
Held a first aid course today at my home which was great with the babies. It was very informative and has given me the confidence to know what to do in an emergency situation. The course is two hours and covered choking, CPR, bleeding and burns. Anyone who is around children should complete a first aid course like this one. Thank you Shavalyea
Shavalyea presented and ran the course in an informative yet interactive manner. Most common emergency situations wrt children were dealt with. How to treat them but more importantly also how to avoid them. I found it rather helpful and believe it would benefit any parent.
We completed the course when our baby was tiny and now am very thankful we did. At 8 months old now and into everything, he started to choke on an ice cube. He went red, couldn't cough and was starting to go blue. The invaluable advice learnt at the course most certainly helped to save his life! Thank you Mini First Aid x
